![]() Here's my understanding of what is happening. Do you notice much of a loss of IQ in the well exposed areas? Integrates well with ML's RAW histogram and "Auto-ETTR" for static subjects. There is a definite learning curve for "best practice" for Dual-ISO (and also many of the other extensive capabilities of MagicLantern).Provides near-HDR dynamic range expansion for non-static images.I'm unclear what it does or doesn't do for video. My experience is that Dual-ISO works very well, and there is minimal down-side to reduced resolution. Dual-ISO is available for almost all Canon DSLR's from 2008 on, that ML supports.the max may be 50% for very contrasty scenes, but less for less contrasty scenes I'm not clear on just how much resolution is reduced. This helps keep track of which is or isn't Dual-ISO (may be unreliable).or _MG_#.cr2 to _UAL#.cr2 (for Adobe color-space).There is an in-camera option to rename the filename from IMG#.crt to DUAL#.This utility merges the pixels, and adds a Dual-ISO keyword.cr2hdr.exe for Windows, not sure for Mac. ![]() There is a utility that needs to be run on RAW.Resolution, moire and aliasing are not issues here. Its is full size, other than being cropped from the top. For example, I have processed this picture (dual iso) from the example given above. Similarly moire and aliasing are not problems in most pictures. As I have shown in my examples you won't see it in many situations. Yes, there is some loss of resolution (less than half). Curious enough to take the risk many have already taken and are enjoying many cool features of ML. "Anyone who likes to live on the bleeding edge, wants to help ML development, and doesn't care about some features being broken." should use the nightly builds. If you're feeling brave, you can find details on how to install the software here. ![]() The author also warns that since this software modifies the sensor's operation, you could end up frying your camera. Vertical resolution is reduced by half and there's more moiré and aliasing in over and underexposed areas. If everything goes fine with 5DII I will test it with 5DIII.Īccording to Magic Lantern, there are some downsides to using the Dual ISO firmware, though. Dual ISO is available for most cameras including 5DIII, 6D and 7D. ![]()
